 | Sadly, the AIG Fiasco Continues!
|
There is an adage: No good deed goes unpunished. And the government in its attempt to bailout AIG is a great example of that.
Yes, after our government to the sum of millions of dollars tried to keep this company afloat, taxpayers have come to learn that $165 million has been given away as ‘free money” under the moniker of “retention bonuses.” And by contract, goes to these hard workers as compensation for what they have done to keep their company in the ‘red. Yes,the AIG fiasco continues.
Not to mention, that in addition to all that,A.I.G. has sued the government in a bid to force it to return payments, of $396 million in tax payments which stemmed in large part from its use of aggressive tax deals, some involving entities controlled by the company’s financial unit offshore. You have been a part of the chatter on AIG. And so have I. Are you angry? You should, and deservedly so. But why the anger-- the threats to shutter the doors of this Wall this firm? Because when we John public have to work to get money, AIG a company barely able to keep afloat has received free money from the Federal government.
It sounds unbelievable, but AIG has been rewarded for doing a bad job. Confused. I am too! A.I.G. is effectively suing its majority owner, the government, which has an 80 percent stake and has poured nearly $200 billion into the insurer in a bid to avert its collapse and avoid troubling the global financial markets. What does the President say about this? Who takes responsibility for this financial fiasco? Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner? I need a bailout. Do you? But worry not. One isn't coming anytime soon. Does the president’s explanation help? President Obama said he was stunned to learn of the millions doled out. Should heads roll?
AIG is actually taking the government to court. Uhmhmmm, the company is in effect asking for more money, in the form of tax refunds. The suit indicates that A.I.G. is again adding salt to the wounds; proving that the government has been foolish to allow this. I say go after them. Which is what New York’s Attorney General, Andrew Coumo, has done. He has the names of seventy (73) persons riding off in the sunset with a pocketful of dollars. Shout loud enough so that Congress hears us and force them to return that money. Be a part of the solution; join the conversation.

 | The bailing out of AIG has much to be desired. Those who eventually got all those bonuses should be taxed as is suggested.Taxpayers, of which I am one, deserve better.Who bails out the ordinary american ?I am one. | Anonymous user
 | I say Amen to that! No more free money for those who squander public dollars. |
