A good habit to get into is that of keeping a notebook and writing something every day. If you're not sure what to write at first, time yourself. Open the notebook, take your pen or pencil, and write. Keep going for two minutes and no longer. Doesn't matter if what if what you write is just a load of gibberish - you're the only one who'll ever see it. Very soon you'll find more and more ideas going into and coming out of what you write, and you'll find yourself wanting to write for longer and longer. and then there'll be no stopping you.

Also, read, read, and then read some more. If you want to write, then you really can't read enough. Anything you like. It's all inspiration. You can afford to be a bit more picky once you've established a writing habit and are beginning to specialise a little more.

Read. Everything. All the time.
Read some more. Read about things that interest you. Things that move you. Read classic stories of love and hate from cultures around the world. Read about history, the sciences, religion, sex, nature.

Then, start writing. Take a little notebook with you (any cheap pocket-sized one from the store will do) and just jot stuff down as it comes to you. If you see something interesting on the street, make a note of it. Witness something odd like a police chase, news story, argument between people? Take note about what you saw, how you felt, what they did. Start a blog about what you think about certain subjects like politics/current events, story lines of your favorite TV shows, why some recipe didn\'t work... anything.

Your brain is like a muscle of sorts. It may seem weak and unproductive at first, but once you start actively cramming stuff in to it, good things will come out of it.

Most of all, have faith in what you have to say.

If you want to meet lots of others in the same boat as you, register with a social networking site such as Facebook, and build up an "audience" for the most mundane of happenings.

And I could not agree more with the recommendation to "read, read, read, and then read some more" - something will encourage you to tell a tale in prose or in verse.

Bon chance with your attempts.
